Radium Hill Heritage Museum Opening

On Easter Sunday, 21st April at 1.30pm, the Peterborough Mayor, Ruth Whittle, OAM, will officially open the Radium Hill Heritage Museum, located at the rear of the Peterborough Steamtown Heritage Centre. This Museum highlights aspects of the birth, life and legacies of Australia’s first uranium mine and town, Radium Hill. Sir Douglas Mawson named the uranium bearing ore davidite and the site Radium Hill. View and read his story. Journey through the displays tracing the evolution of the mine and supporting town, which became home for up to nearly 1,200 people of 37 different nationalities in the 1950’s. Be amazed at aspects of the mining, social and sporting history of the close-knit community spirit that evolved at Radium Hill where 117 babies were born in the local A.I.M. Hospital.
