PETERBOROUGH PLAYERS
Peterborough Players
In mid-2020, three friends, Peter Hopkins (a singer, teacher, director and
conductor), Meg Benbow (an artist and designer), and Russell McQuilty (a
sculptor and set builder) got together over dinner and the topic of
discussion turned to the possibility of establishing a theatre group in
Peterborough. Enlisting the help of established local artists Heather and
Des Parker, the Peterborough Players came into being.
Many local people came on board to take roles on stage, to help with set
building, ticket sales and the many other tasks involved. The Peterborough
Festival Committee got behind the concept and in April 2021 we presented
our first programme of one-act plays in the Yongala Memorial Hall, as part
of the Peterborough Art and Cultural Festival. The support from the people
of the area and nearby towns was very enthusiastic.
